Snapshots

Time is moving by so fast! I often wonder where my day goes. They are rewiring Atonkwa so our power is off most afternoons till dark. I am finally getting the hang of doing my things needing electric in the morning and keeping hand work for later in the day. It is very frustrating since I have several sewing projects right now. They are replacing water lines as well in this general area and turn the water off for days at a time. That normally doesn't affect us since we have a holding tank but last evening I got a trickle for my shower. We haven't had water all day today. From what we can find out, the water has probably been off since Friday or right around there. If only we could tell we wouldn't have washed our vehicle and things like that.

They climb the pole with climbing shoes and are stringing new wires. Kenny doesn't think it would be OSHEA approved!

Rainy season is starting. With it comes beautiful cooler days. No AC needed at night. I don't turn the fans on the first thing in the morning. The boys play out side more. But it also brings problems of getting laundry dry. Mud, mud, mud!!! Puddles, and more puddles. Thunderstorms in the middle of the night that have all the children wanting to climb in our bed. (Our room is big enough I make a bed for them on the floor and we all can snooze.)

Austin was sure he was cold one morning. He was so tickled to wear a jacket!
Taking Kelsey to school turns into an adventure!

We had an incident at the school a few weeks ago. Two of the men's phones went missing. They accused some neighbor boys. Then they started accusing each other. Kenny was pretty sure it was one of the students but he couldn't figure out which one. After about two weeks of nothing happening, they finally went to the police station for them to question every one. He can't have the students all suspecting each other. It created a lot of tension. The two men that had phones stolen accused the one other student. They came away with no answers, but it put enough pressure on the student and that evening he ran away. His best friend showed one of the ones that had his phone stole, messages confirming money drawn from the account linked to the one phone. So now Kenny is down to four students. Things are going very well since then. I had wondered how they would get enough work but so far that hasn't been an issue. There is always something breaking down.

Sunday afternoons are perfect for the beach!

We were invited to Eric and Rita for fufu one Saturday night. We had had some when we were here in October but the children had not. They cook plantain and cassava and then pound it to form a dough. They make it into balls and serve it with soup over it. You pinch it off with your fingers and then slurp it down with soup. Kelsey ate some and said it was ok. Austin ate one or two bites and was done. Brent poked around in the fufu, ate tiny pieces and slurped down the soup. Kenny actually finished his but mine was just too much. It sits very heavy! The visiting was wonderful! Erics are our age and he is the top man at Salt to Ghana. He told us his story of how he got involved in Salt and how he met Rita.
Rita and Regina pounding fufu.

The boys biking on the porch. I love that I can lock them in and not worry about where they are. It wraps around two sides of the house so it gives them plenty of play room.

One evening we were out of electric for the third or fourth evening in a row, so we ate supper at Mable's Table's. Beautiful, much cooler than our stuffy house, and good food!

Every evening as I wash dishes, lizards run around on my kitchen window and eat bugs. And although this one is on the outside, not all of them are! At least it's less bugs to bug me!

All time favorite breakfast!

They happened to be matching this morning.

Playing blocks can entertain them for quite awhile.

Some moms are really good at multi tasking! Mama Justina sent me this picture. I think it is a visual of how I feel some days!

Life has been a mix of highs and lows. I think we are entering the frustration stage of adjusting and our long bumpy road home can be very annoying! But we also have more friends, and are really loving our life here. I often remind myself that I need to keep the long term goal in focus and remember we are in a battle with Satan.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
