Our New Home

The Front of Our House
                                               
I can't believe it has taken this long for me to get this done! One request I heard numerous times before we left was, don't forget to post pictures of your house now that it is repainted. Of course I will! I couldn't wait to show people around our place since pictures is probably the only way most people will see it. 
  But one thing led to another and here we are. This week it is 4 weeks since we moved and I'm only getting to it now.

  Merlin and Bethany were in charge of getting our house ready and they did an excellent job. We had picked out the paint colors back in October and they did all the work. The kitchen is still not completed but Merlin assures me by March 31st.😊 At least I have a sink, refrigerator and stove. And even if the cupboards don't have doors, they are still very usable. I suppose you could say they are in style!
Beside us the family runs a school for young children.



  The fence is almost completed. It's just chain link, but will keep our puppy in and the neighbor children at a bit of a distance (unless they have permission). Plus keep our children here.
The view as you come in our drive way. There will eventually be a set of gates about right where I am standing to take the picture.
We have done some painting in the kitchen since these pictures were taken. Maybe I can show pictures once it is completed.

My pantry is just off the kitchen.
I have a nice big freezer in my pantry as well.
Our desk is in the corner and there is Mama Ese washing the floor.
The main bathroom, first there is a small room with
a washbowl. Then a room with a shower on the left.
And a room with a toilet on the right.

Kelsey has a bunk bed. The totes are full of things for my kitchen. Since her room is straight across the hall, it is handy and out of the way to have them there.

Volta Region

 We visited Volta Region in May. Volta region is in Eastern Ghana, next to Togo. We could see mountain ridges that were in Togo quite a bit. This is where Ghana's highest mountains are and it is so different from the costal area we live in. It was just beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the different sights. This is going to be a lot of pictures but there is too much beauty to not share it. Just on the other side of Accra you start realizing you are entering a different world. Everything is more agriculture/farming. Adomi Bridge, we were hoping to get to this area much earlier in the day but traffic was terrible and it was very late till we got to the place we were spending the night. Its Been a While!

I have no excuses except maybe forgetfulness? Mixed up priorities? Emotionally tired? At any rate it has been far too long and I have decided to do better! Since it has been so long, we are going to look back in that order.  We just hosted a group from Maryland and had VBS in Assomdree. It was extra special since this church started as an outreach church from our church. And our good friends were chaperones. Our children were very happy that the group included a few children.  Riding tricycles, Kenny needed to do some explaining and bartering since we needed 5 tricycles to all end up at the same place and most people didn't know where we were going. Group picture, even though they were our largest group we ever hosted, things went very well! Our church got a few inches of water in it the other week. When are you moving home?

 One of the most frequent questions we got this time on furlough is, "When are you moving home?"   Hopefully, we didn't offend anyone in our responses to this question. We got a bit weary of it because we don't know. We don't have any good answers to tell people. I'm going to be very honest about our feelings and hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from on this question.   One of the main concerns people talked about is our children. Do they like it in Ghana? Each of them has a part of them that wants to be in the US with family and friends and live the American dream. But each of them also loves Ghana. Both boys have lived in Ghana longer then in the US. They are more comfortable in their slippers (any sort of flip flop or sandal) then in shoes. And actually love best when their feet are stained reddish brown with African dirt. The point is, this is their home.
