August

This has gotten pushed to the back burner all month. Life just happens to all of us and I don't even have the excuse that I was busy canning! Although we did do a canning day in August.
We finally went on a much looked forward to exploring trip once again. New places are refreshing and relaxing! We ate a lunch beside Volta lake.
It was a beautiful spot and we had the entire restaurant to ourselves.
We also enjoyed the grass lands of Shai Hills.
We love the roads less traveled! It felt like we were entering a different world. It was so pretty even if the roads were very rough getting there.
The main reason for visiting Shai Hills National Park was seeing the baboons. Sadly they just hung around the main highway running past the park to beg for handouts.
And they really did beg!
A tour guide took us for a drive and we hiked to these caves where the Shai people lived many years ago. This was the King's cave and was well protected.
Our area is made up of rolling hills so these "rock piles" were fascinating.

The day after our exploring trip we went to pick my parents up at the airport. There is a shopping mall close to the airport that has a balcony where you can eat and watch planes come in to land. It was a very exciting moment to see this flight come in!
There was a commotion in our yard one Sunday afternoon. Some boys had come to play ball and Austin saw this 'mum pum' or mointer lizard trying to find a way out of our fence.
Kenny killed it and the native boys were happy to tote it off to sell. Someone had a feast that night!
Making precious memories!
Of course we took them to see the castle. We have been through many times but I rarely go without learning something new.
We also explored the new fish market. Do you think they are considering going to sea?
We have wanted to do a tomato day for a long time and we finally got it done! It was a lot of tomatoes but we split them between 5 families.
It is wonderful to have juice, spaghetti sauce, and salsa on hand again.

I always keep an eye out for wise sayings.
Kelsey's friend had a birthday and we surprised her with a cake. A first for her.
And the last day of August, Kelsey had a birthday as well. Now we have a teenager in the house.
The Sunday after her birthday we had some friends over for supper.

And just another ocean picture!

September has brought a big change to our lives. Miss Jenna Strite arrived to teach school. My days went from focusing on just school to being able to get out and catch up on things at home. But you will hear more about September after a bit. On Saturday a group arrives to help with two youth events next week. One in our village and one in Assomdree. The topic is purity and we will split the boys and girls. After the topic and a discussion time, we plan to do craft with the girls and the boys will play volley ball. Pray that seeds could be planted. This is an area of life and an age group that we have a huge burden for. Also, we have tickets to fly to the US for a one month furlough the end of October. We have had quite a bit of sickness this rainy season, with Brent just having the first malaria case for our family. Pray that we would have good health and could enjoy our time in the US.
