June

In June the long awaited visit from Aunt Amy finally arrived. At the end of the month two couples from our board came for a visit as well. We finally planted a coconut tree. Not sure why we waited so long to plant trees! Driving home from Cape Coast one beautiful evening. Waiting for Amy to come out from the airport. We went to village baby clinic at Living Hope. And of course had supper at Mable's Table. The boys were delighted to take Amy to see the river.                                           And Brent was tickled with his fish and chips that came on a fish plate at the restaurant in Accra on the way back to the airport. The end of June Ken and Barb Schaffer and Curt and Keturah Zimmerman and their daughter Kelsey came to visit. Gary's and Curt's met us and Ken's to tour the castle. Oaklynn is so good for my rough and tumble boys. She is a good reminder to them that people watch what they do! There was a ceremony at the new fishing port to lock the sea. They clo

VBS

VBS started in 2019 when Karissa Horst and Merlin and Bethany Ramer organized a children's Bible School in our village. They spent many hours, pulled from their knowledge of similar programs in the US, and came up with a very organized plan. Most of which we still use in every VBS we do. We had been planning and gathering things to have VBS in our village. And then we hit a speed bump, turning point, or wall. Whatever you want to call it. The week before the scheduled VBS we found out that they planned a sporting event for several of the surrounding schools. Almost all the children in our village would be gone till dark to participate. When Kenny came home and told me, we were a bit dumbfounde

May was a busy month of gatherings and then saying good bye to Burnell and Lisa and their family. Rainy season finally started and we all noticed how clear the skies were after a shower. We usually have high humidity or dusty hazy skies. We spent an evening at the ocean. The children played on a fishing boat, pretending to go to sea! Or taking jumps off of it.                                         I know I have said it so many times but we are so thankful to have all this beauty so close by. The farmers are still working hard in their fields every day. I love the expanded view out of my kitchen window. And watching them farm has been making me think of all kinds of comparisons between their battle for crops and our life on earth, and also compare the culture of hard labor, a little at a time, to the highly effective, high speed culture of the US.
