April

The first part of May has been a bit busier than normal so this update is rather late. Heidi left in April so we transitioned to homeschooling. By now Kelsey is finished and Austin has about 15 more days of school. I enjoy having my children home all day but it is a big adjustment for them and for me!

We are still spending every Saturday evening at the Salt house at Iture. We have anywhere from 5 to 50 children. We added a Bible Study and it isn't appreciated by all the children. Normally over half of them manage to skip that part of the evening. We hope eventually they get used to it and participate more willingly.

Kelsey enjoys all the little children. Occasionally we let them color part of the evening.

One Saturday while we were away, we came home to find that our new concrete water tower (our old metal one was rusting) had broken and our water tank had come crashing down. Since then we have been using water straight from the pipe. We live on top of a hill and as soon as water pressure is low, we don't get water. So morning and evening when everyone in the village is using water, we often don't have water for an hour or two. They plan to start on repairs this week.

The container at Peace Avenue house got moved to the Palm Press. It was a long drawn out process and took multiple tries to get someone there to do it, but it got done and we were able to hand the keys to that property back to the owners.
Natacha gave us a hammock since we have trees to hang one in. The children spend hours out there.
Brent celebrated his 5th birthday. I made a cake with his current favorite activity......
Watching the excavators work on the sea wall behind the Salt house.
Kenny also had a birthday.
The last Thursday of April we spent the day in Accra. We picked up car parts, our ID cards, and then spent the afternoon at a park. They had a large playground with all kinds of climbing things and a small zip line for the children.
Then we went over to the rope course and zip line for the older people. The children were happy to keep their feet on the ground and watch Daddy.
Austin and Brent schemed and dreamed.
And Kenny enjoyed himself doing their different obstacle courses

Austin is starting to pick up books and read without me asking him to. It is such a relief to me, I want all my children to enjoy books. School hasn't been easy for him but obviously he is learning!

On Friday we attended a wedding just north of Accra at the Mennonite church. We had visited there about a year ago and met the bride Rhoda.

Saturday we had another wedding. Nicholas does all the building projects for our mission.

We just returned from a trip up north but that story will wait for another day. May is flying by faster than I would like! We have tickets and plans for our furlough from mid July to mid August. It will be here before we know it!
