October

We had some good rains in October. Austin likes to go to the shop with Kenny occasionally before school which works fine since school is just down the road.
We took our mower over and mowed at church one evening. Since it is on Living Hope property they normally mow it but their mower was broken.
The clouds were beautiful that evening!
Austin likes to help cook. His favorite job is peeling things.
One of our family members sent the boys some Tractor House magazines. They spend a lot of time looking at them. I can tell Brent hasn't been around farm equipment. He is learning the names of things though, with Daddy's help!
I remember Kenny and I talking about what he will do if he runs out of cars to work on. They hadn't done a lot of outside work before we came and not that many people knew about the shop. We should never have worried! Word spread. Unfortunately he often gets cars with problems no one else could figure out. And that every one else has already modified once or twice.

There were two huge haul trucks being hauled one day on our way home from town. One truck broke down in the middle of the road, this one had pulled over to go help the other one.
Kenny got stung by this scorpion. Thankfully he didn't react to it and it wasn't even as bad as a bee sting. This is the less poisonous kind.
The sunset over our village. We can't see sunsets from our house so they are a rare treat for us when we happen to be out and about at that time of day.
The river overflowed after some heavy rains.
The best way to view the flood waters is from the bed of the truck! We were thankful our current ride was a truck. We saw a car pushing water that covered its headlights.
We gave several people rides. But many people walked as not many taxis were going to risk these puddles. Till the next morning just puddles were left.
We had our monthly home school gathering. The children stamped with paint and foam stamps. A bit like they do their fabric stamping.
Heidi had her birthday!
Another beautiful sunset one evening while we were in market. It was such a beautiful time of day and wasn't as busy. The market ladies all wanted to chat. It was a good reminder that even though it can be frustrating to go to three or four or more shops to get all my groceries, I do love market. Wal-Mart just doesn't compare.
I don't have any pictures, but the most exciting thing that happened in October was the arrival of Duane and Kaylene Martin. They are settling in well. He is helping at the shop the rest of this school term and then will be in charge next year. Kaylene is teaching 5th to 12th grade, which is 6 students. Heidi now has 1st and 3rd.
I hadn't expected their arrival to affect me quite the way it did. It suddenly made it real that a new chapter of our lives is starting. We aren't moving back to the US but our lives will look drastically different in a year from now. Our new job is administration for the mission, church leadership, and community development and outreach. Since it is a new position in this area, the possibilities and options are endless, but we don't know exactly what it will look like for us. You can join us in prayer for direction in helping those around us in a way that glorifies God. I think the fear of the unknown is the worst fear for me. Can we actually fill this position? Will we actually reach around? Will Kenny have time for the many people that ask for his attention every day now already? Will we get bored? Will there be nothing to do? (Actually, we have never had nothing to do in Ghana. And I don't think we ever will. I do hope it becomes more manageable and we have time as a family more then we do now.)
Again and again I need to take my fears and the unknown to God. The biggest challenge is laying it down and leaving it there. So many times I take things to God, tell Him all about them, but then I keep carrying everything with me. But, I am so thankful that even as I struggle with it, I do know that I can trust Him. And even though we don't know what our future holds, He does. And then, the truth that we have held close from the first day we arrived in Ghana.
                                    Whoever God calls, He enables.
