September

We knew September was going to be busy with graduation in the middle of it. Thankfully the beginning of the month was quieter and I had several projects that I got crossed off my list.
One of those projects was adding some fun to the children's bed rooms. I don't like a lot of extra things around to collect spiderwebs and dust, but paint on a wall does neither so I went that route.
Kelsey was invited to a birthday party at the Wonders. Heidi and I took her and Rachel and helped out. It was a tea party and they decorated mugs.
One Saturday we rode along to Takoradi with Kenny to get car parts. He buys most of his filters from this man. I think they both enjoy haggling about prices!
And of course this was the children's real motivation for going along! I think spending time as a family had something to do with it too, but the burgers were the highlight of the day! And of course I was happy to do some grocery shopping and get some items that aren't available in our area.
Mama Justina works for Living Hope and attends our church. Her sister was having complications at the end of her pregnancy so she moved in with Mama Justina since she lives closer to the hospital. We all rejoiced with her when the baby arrived safely! They buried the two babies before this one, so she is extra precious.
An older man on the other side of our village grows tomatoes and peppers. I was happy to buy straight from the field!
And even though it is time consuming, Patricia came to help, and we cooked a kettle of pizza sauce and one of salsa. I am so happy to have canned things on my shelf again!
And then it was time to turn our attention to graduation! We bought green plantain the week before and put them in plastic bags to ripen. Sadly, the weather was cooler and they weren't ripe in time. We ended up selling and gifting these and buying ripe ones the day before graduation.
Tomato stew in preparation for making Jollof rice. We sat and stirred and chatted for two hours. It made me feel like I was back in my dads butcher shop stirring scrapple!
After  busy week of going away every day and putting in long hours, we treated ourselves to a pizza lunch at a local cafe.
The plan was to go swim at the beach before coming home, but there was a storm coming. We sat and watched it come across the ocean.
If you look at this carpentry shop carefully, you will notice two things. They sell caskets. And the name above the door is Thank You Jesus. I love reading business names!

Austin had his seventh birthday. He had been waiting for this day for weeks! Just this morning he was reading a Dick and Jane book with his sister's help. It is hard to believe our little blondie boy is a school boy, learning to read!!
