Why We Love Ghana

  When people think about Africa I think different things come to their minds. Some people think hot, sandy desert. Some people think elephants, giraffes, and zebras. And some people think of the beautiful children with hungry looks.   I think our favorite thing in Ghana is definitely the people. We love living near the ocean. We love the quiet little corner that we call home. But most of the things we love are because of the people. Going to market and talking to people. Even driving bumpy dirt roads has an advantage because you can talk to the people walking because they are moving at almost the same pace as you. And sitting at a red light gives opportunities to talk to the hawkers.    When we were on furlough we thought about how little people interact. Face masks of course make it more of a problem and social distancing, but no one asked you how your family is when you went to the store to buy groceries. February might have been the shortest month of the year but we sure packed a lot into it! We were out of water for a day and hauled jugs of water from the village well. Thankfully, Kenny is now on a first name bases with a man from the water company and after a phone call to him, he figured it out (Saturday evening even!) and everyone had water again. The water line had been off for a short time and a valve got stuck, which meant no water for the shop and us and everyone in between. The water had been off at the school/church as well. Someone had tried to wash their hands and left the faucet turned on. When the water started coming, the water came out of the faucet, hit the edge of the sink and sprayed all over the place. Thankfully with concrete walls and tile, water damage isn't a problem! But when we arrived at church, there was water running out the door.
