October

I think October was one of the longest months we ever had in Ghana. We are so ready for a break and with furlough just around the corner, time can't go too fast!
One evening Lonnie Weaver's girls came for the night and the next day while their parents were in Accra. Kelsey had so much fun playing with girls for a day! Her brothers struggled with jealousy a bit but they survived! They washed all their dollies clothes.

We took a walk in the field behind our house in the afternoon.

One Sunday afternoon we went on an excursion to a dam not too far from our house. Thanks to recent rains, there was a nice amount of water running over it.

Part of the old water treatment building. They still use the water from this dam but have new facilities.
We also stopped at the beach on the way home. It was a beautiful day!
Austin has been loving every moment he gets to spend at the shop helping Kenny.

Austin and Kenny made a boat one weekend and we walked down to the river to sail it.

A fish trap.

We are having frequent rains again. We don't see many rainbows here but Kenny saw this early one morning at the shop.

The most exciting thing this month for the children was the new puppies. It has been a hard time to wait to play with them but they opened their eyes the end of this week and are getting lots of loving now!

I walked by these on my way to the shop one day. Mud brick houses are definitely around but these are the first new bricks I have ever seen.

Patricia has been helping me with some house cleaning before we go on furlough. It is wonderful to have the help and this little fellow is a good motivator to get lots of school work done fast.

The past week I came down with a bad cold and my housecleaning came to a stand still. The children all came down with it the end of the week as well. Saturday was a warm day and we spent the last hour of daylight on the beach. The warm salt spray felt wonderful to everyone's lungs an we came home refreshed and relaxed. Thankfully everyone is feeling better today!

A bank of clouds is very common in the late afternoon and evenings these days. Often they stay north of us, but we have been getting good showers.

Our roads have some water in the holes again. So far we haven't had any mud like we did last year. Just enough to make it interesting!

If we have learned anything this year it is how quickly plans can change. With that in mind, we still can't help be extremely excited for our first furlough. Originally we planned to be gone the month of December but because of working all the schedules out, Kenny will finish school two weeks earlier than planned and then Monday, the 16th, we will be headed to the US. We would appreciate your prayers over the next weeks and months that travel plans would go smoothly, not only for us, but also for Tom and Galyn and their family going on furlough, and the other families that are hoping to finally make the move to join us here.
As I said before Kenny is finishing his term. It has been another term of learning and growing the school. But God has been faithful and we can see Him working in the students lives. This coming Friday, the students from last year will be coming and we hope to have a day of encouraging this years students as they move on after their schooling is completed. This class is excited about their possibilities and we are so glad they are looking forward to getting out into the world and use their skills.
