May Days
One Sunday morning the children got up early and were outside taking pictures of the sunrise. It was a beautiful morning!
May 15th found us saying good bye to Jethro and Amber Martin, Joel and Marcie Burkholder, and Trevor Oberholtzer. I don't think it has sank in yet that they won't be coming back but we wish them all the best in their next adventures in life. Things are very quiet now. We had had work crews and visitors and now it is just a few people around. We look forward to the day when the border opens and the new families can come!
The sadness of them leaving was helped a little by the exciting arrival of this little boy! Patricia has been helping me two days a week for the past several months and we were looking forward to her baby's arrival. Galyn went with me to give them a ride home from the hospital.
A week later we went for a naming ceremony. The children all loved his soft curls. He is so cuddly!

The last week of May Kenny had planned for the school to have it's first break. The original plan was for a two week break while we were in the US for 10 days. Since that didn't happen they just took one week off. Kenny, Jarell, and Ernest spent 3 days at the shop trying to trouble shoot two vehicles and do the last tuning to them. Thursday Ernest took the one car back to it's owner and we headed west. About two and a half hours west of us, there are surfing beaches Kenny has long dreamed of surfing. When Jarell moved into our house and Kenny learned he loved that type of thing as well, they really put it on their bucket list. I said as long as the children have a nice place to play and we have a nice place to stay, we will all be happy! Of course, on the way there we need to pass through Takoradi. We frequently go there for parts and almost always have police trouble. We were so pleased to be on the other side with no problems when this moto pulled in front of us and the police man motioned us to follow him. We made a right turn at a red light and they were not happy with us. Everyone else in front of us had as well, but that is besides the point! They told us we will follow them to the station and they will show us the video footage. We followed them almost half an hour back the exact way we had come. When we got to the station they took Kenny inside and after some questions, they took him to the chief police and told him what Kenny had done wrong. The police chief said, Oh that is legal. Suddenly the officers were very anxious for us to leave! However, they had promised Kenny he could see the footage and he still wanted to see it! They kept avoiding his questions and telling him he needs to go now They came out to the truck and when he asked again to see the footage they told him to go talk to the chief As soon as he started back towards the building, they hopped on their moto and drove off. The police chief came out and apologized for the hassle they gave us and the time they had wasted. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to Kenny. "Next time they bother you, call me!" That phone number is worth a lot to us. It should be able to get us fair treatment next time!
The boys got very tired of waiting! Two hours from the time they first pulled us over, we went through the same intersection.
One thing that is so fun about Ghana that is changes so much from one area to the next. We came by this place and wondered if we had made a wrong turn and ended up in western US!
More on our vacation next time!
